This rustic, but comfortable, cabin was built by the water’s edge in 1917 and remains true to its origins; a place for quiet relaxation from the challenges of the modern world
KenMa Cottage is a precious and rare commodity in these hectic times. It is a lot of things simply because of the things it isn’t.If unplugging – really unplugging – speaks to you, this is the place to come to.KenMa Cottage is about peace and quiet, the kind that comes from sitting on a deck overlooking the water and reading a book or walking along rocks smoothed by the sea.A place where time is only measured by the tides, lobster boats coming in from the haul or the sun sinking behind the spikey pines across the water. This rustic, but comfortable, cabin was built by the water’s edge in 1917 and remains true to its origins; a place for quiet relaxation from the challenges of the modern world. The covered deck is just feet from the shore and overlooks the many islands of the Muscongus Bay. In the mornings, lobster boats work nearby; in the afternoons, sailboats and kayaks glide by on silver waters. The front room of the cabin has a stone fireplace, marked in small stones, with a nickname for the man who inspired its construction. Kendrick Marshall (or KenMa, for short) ran the Port Clyde General Store in the early 1900s and manned the village’s post office. His ancestors still own the cabin and are making it available to people outside the family for the first time in more than 50 years. An addition in the 1980s added a basic eat-in kitchen with an electric stove, sink, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, a small bathroom with a shower and a cozy bedroom. The cabin can accommodate 2 in the bedroom (double bed) and 1 in the alcove in the front room on a twin bed. The total square footage (less the decks) is about 600 square feet. There is no phone, no TV and no Internet service. Heat, if needed, is provided by a fantastic fireplace in the front room and a portable electric heater. Great books, good conversation, strolls along the shore and walk to the village replace the need for electronics. There’s plenty of shoreline to launch a kayak or spread out a beach towel on the rocks. Dogs – large or small – seem to thrive here, sleeping in the sun on the side deck, wading in the salt water, walking through the woods…For anyone who stays here, it becomes clear that vacations are better when you are present in the moment enough to really see where you are.KenMa Cottage, Port Clyde, Maine…no emails, no meetings, no alarms. Just salty breezes, fresh lobster, chairs on a deck and peace and quiet.BEFORE YOU BOOK INFORMATIONFIRES: ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THIS PROPERTY WITHOUT EXPLICIT PERMISSION. ANOTHER FABULOUS WEEK AT KENMA

August 2019

Thomas M. We stay here every year and it never disappoints. We love disconnecting and just enjoying the place. It is truly one of a kind and we plan on making many more memories over the years there. Additionally the women that run SummerMaine go above and beyond, it's really the most stress free experience.

KENMA WAS EXCELLENT, A SIMPLE RUSTIC PLEASURE

August 2019

Claire M. Ken Ma was the perfect, rustic Maine get a way vacation cottage. The view from the porch was beautiful, peaceful and could be enjoyed in sunny and rainy weather comfortably. Port Clyde is a lovely small village.

A PORT CLYDE TREASURE

June 2020

I'm hesitant to give a fantastic review because I'd prefer not to share this absolute treasure! The location is very well off the beaten path and quiet. Throughout my stay I was in mandatory quarantine due to COVID 19. I brought all my food, and found the kitchen to be well supplied. Both beds were comfortable, with good mattresses. If you are looking for 5-star accomodations and pampering this is not for you. If you enjoy the basics and are in Port Clyde to unwind, this is it! The views are spectacular from the porch or the beach. The cottage is unique; I enjoyed getting to know it and plan to stay again. In another description of the property, it was stated "dogs thrive here." I would take that a step further and say "dogs thrive here because they are mirroring what they see and feel from their humans."

PERFECT GETAWAY ION THE WATER

June 2020

Andrew W. Lovely well maintained but very old all-wood cabin with private rock beach. Only 5 minutes from the "coop" to buy fresh fish and lobster. Lots of thoughtful touches, all windows open all the way to permit the sand an fresh air to enter and all are screened to keep out the books. Books to read and games to play. Magnificent ocean facing porch. No Internet, but T-mobile connection on my cell worked OK.
