How to pack for a multi-day trip in one carry-on
- Bringing smaller bags on a long trip can make a huge difference in the ease and comfort of travel. Whether you’re aiming to go minimalist or sick of your bags getting lost in transit, try these tips to pack light for your next multi-day adventure.

Pick the best carry-on. Airlines have varied rules on sizing for carry-on luggage. If you’re flying, check with your specific airline to ensure your bag is allowed. It should be able to fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat.
Try a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is a series of clothing that you can mix and match. Bring a pair of pants to wear with several tops or a skirt appropriate for a restaurant and the beach. Accessories like hats and jewelry are easy to pack and can elevate an outfit from casual to classy, so you’re ready to go anywhere. Bring two pairs of shoes – one for walking and another that’s a little dressier if you need them. Make sure to pack layering pieces to prepare for changing weather.

Get mini-everything. There is likely a miniature version of every toiletry you need. If not, purchase reusable containers and transfer your products into them. Airlines typically follow a 3.4-ounce allowance for liquids. Many lodging options provide personal-size body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, so you may be able to leave those items at home.
Pack smart. Roll clothing instead of folding to save room. Use packing cubes to sort clothes, underwear, and shoes. Stash toiletries in waterproof bags to prevent spills.
Go without. Be honest with yourself. How many outfits and pairs of shoes will you really wear? Do you need three swimsuits, or can you get by with one?
Do laundry on the go. You can always stop by a laundromat and wash everything (or pay to have it washed) to cut down on luggage and stay fresh and clean.
